Winter

The clock says 2024.......

Its been truffles and candy canes, cookies and pie and now you’re ready for a fresh start. From your Christmas decorations to your countertop piled with treats lets take January to create that fresh feeling we are craving.

Simple Film Frame

While it might be tempting to keep hiding under the blankets eating the box of chocolates - because lets face it- we aren’t exactly in our spring mood (or attire) yet - by using this month to create a morning routine, start decluttering our homes, pack away the last of the Christmas decor we are going to feel so much better.

I’ve included a declutter checklist, deep clean checklist, full week of fresh meals, snack ideas, make ahead breakfasts, morning routine and evening routine makeovers!

Let’s dive in!

Im ready.... are you?

Declutter..............the checklist

Do not get overwhelmed. Do not try to do all of this in one day.

Have 10 min? tackle the junk drawer.

Kids playing in their room? Join them and do the toy sort.

Set a timer and do ONE checklist item at a time.

Infographic List

Kid(s) rooms. Pack away toys they no longer play with and display the new toys they recieved for Christmas.

Toss out the cookies, and the gingerbread house.

Go through bathroom cabinets. Toss expired lotions, hair products or anything that hasn’t been used in a year.

Infographic List

Open tv console. If you no longer have a DVD player toss the DVDs you’ve been “saving”.

Empty the fridge. Yes - all the way. Wipe down shelves and drawers.Check expiration labels on everything before you put it back.

The freezer. Yes - all the way to the back. Empty it. If you prepped a frozen meal 3 years ago its gotta go.

Your winter wardrobe. If you haven’t worn that sweater in 3 years its time to toss it. If its just “there” its creating clutter.

The pantry. Empty it - you’re gonna need a playlist for this one. Grab some bins or baskets so you can organize as you put back.

Kids clothes. Order space saver bags if you are storing the clothes they’ve grown out of. Check for stains and fold nicely before you pack up.

Deep dive into deep cleaning

I’ll say this again. Do not get overwhelmed.

Take one thing a day or even a week. You’ll still be farther ahead than you were on December 31st

Infographic List

If you have a fabric couch strip it. Start early on the day on this project since they take so long to dry.

Wash all the throw blankets your family has been snuggled in the last 2 months.

If your bed comforter can be washed in a washing machine do that. If it can’t then arrange a time to drop if off at the cleaners.

Infographic List

Clean the high windows - grab the ladder from the garage and get those places that you say you’ll always get to next time.

Infographic List

Clean the laundry room and washing machine. I have actually thrown away clothes that got shoved in the corner and mildewed & I wish I had avoided that.

Do a self clean cycle on your oven. Start early in the day and on a cool day since it gets so hot.

If you don’t do them regularly wipe down or dust the fans & baseboards.

Winter Landscape

I’ve literally been shouting.... I have GOT to get my life together. And mainly that means my food.

Monday: One Skillet Cheese Ground Chicken Pasta

Tuesday: Garlicky Shrimp & Broccoli

Wednesday: Turkey Burgers

Thursday: Taco Bowls

Friday: Crab cakes or shrimp kabobs from deli

(because food effects our mood, energy and how those jeans button).

I can’t be the only one who’s been grabbing at the cookies, swinging through to go food and has a layer of fuzz on every fresh vegetable in the fridge.

I sat on the floor and made our meal plan and grocery list for the week so here it is.

These meals are still warm and deliciously satisfying.

One-Skillet Cheesy

Ground Chicken Pasta

Directions:

Heat oil in a large, high-sided skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add chicken; cook, stirring often to break up the meat, until cooked through and beginning to brown, 6 to 8 minutes. Add onion, tomatoes, Italian seasoning and salt; cook, until the onion is softened and the tomatoes are breaking down, about 5 min.

Stir in pasta, broth, marinara and cream; bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Cover & simmer, stirring, until the pasta is al dente, 10 to 12 min. Stir in spinach (in batches, if necessary), basil & mozzarella; cover and cook until the spinach wilts and the cheese melts. Garnish with more basil and Parmesan.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 cup halved grape tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces whole-wheat penne
  • 2 cups unsalted chicken broth
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 5 ounces fresh baby spinach
  • ½ cup chopped fresh basil, plus more for garnish
  • ½ cup low-moisture part-skim shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

One-Pot Garlicky

Shrimp & Broccoli

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 6 medium cloves garlic, sliced, divided
  • 4 cups small broccoli florets
  • ½ cup diced red bell pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt, divided
  • ½ teaspoon ground pepper, divided
  • 1 pound peeled and deveined raw shrimp (21-30 count)
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice, plus more to taste

Directions

Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add half the garlic and cook until beginning to brown, about

1 minute. Add broccoli, bell pepper and 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper. Cover and cook, stirring once or twice and adding 1 tablespoon water if the pot is too dry, until the vegetables are tender, 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and keep warm.

Increase heat to medium-high and add the remaining 1 tablespoon oil to the pot. Add the remaining garlic and cook until beginning to brown, about 1 minute. Add shrimp and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper; cook, stirring, until the shrimp are just cooked through, 3 to 5 minutes. Return the broccoli mixture to the pot along with lemon juice and stir to combine.

Turkey Burgers

Directions

Make the patties. In a medium bowl, combine the turkey, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix everything together. Divide the mixture evenly and form 4 large patties.

Cook the patties. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the oil. Cook the patties for approximately 5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Assemble the turkey burger. Enjoy the patties plain or assemble them into turkey burgers with your favorite toppings and condiments!

FOR THE TURKEY BURGERS:

1 pound 93% lean ground turkey

1 tablespoon mayonnaise

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon kosher salt

½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

OPTIONAL TOPPINGS:

cheddar cheese slices

sliced tomato

sliced onion

caramelized onion

pickles

lettuce

ketchup,

mustard

mayonnaise

Taco Bowls

I love having taco bowls planned for a super busy night. I will precook the meat and have the lettuce chopped so all you do is assemble them when you are ready to eat.

Cook either beef or turkey according to standard taco seasoning package instructions.

If you want to add rice I would precook that as well.

Layer in the bowl:

Rice

Meat

Corn

Cheese

Salsa

Avocado

Black beans

Top with more salsa and sour cream if you’d like!

Crab Cakes

If you know you have a late meeting or sports with the kids I would grab some pre-made crab cakes from your local seafood market or grocery store to have ahead of time. If they don’t have crab cakes then grab some pre-made shrimp kabobs.

Ido a side of steamed broccoli and we do grits here in the south but you could also serve them over a bed of wild rice.

It’s always nice to have a night or 2 of something pre-made readily available in the fridge for those late nights!

I have tried to make crab cakes homemade MANY times and the time that it takes just isn’t worth it vs grabbing them pre-made.

Snacks

Since you’ve tossed all the cookies and chocolates its time to replace those snacks. Here are some options to grab when the munchies hit.

Have the zucchini and squash chopped, the berries rinsed and put into these containers

Organic Apples and Peanut Butter

Breakfast

Egg Muffins

Ingredients:

1/4 cup fresh spinach, roughly chopped

8 grape or cherry tomatoes, halved

1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

10 eggs

delicious vegetable egg muffins

Make a batch of these for grab and go on busy mornings!

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F Lightly spray a 12-cup capacity muffin tin with nonstick oil spray.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, spinach, cherry tomatoes and mozarella. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  • Divide egg mixture into muffins sections.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, until set.
  • Let cool slightly, then serve OR store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat when ready to serve.

Overnight oats and blueberries

Overnight Oats

Perfect grab & go for busy mornings!

1. Add oats, coconut milk, chia seeds, maple syrup, extract, and cinnamon to a 16-oz. mason jar (or sealable container); stir to combine.

2. Top with blueberries, banana, almonds, and pumpkin seeds; seal jar.

Refrigerate overnight.

Ingredients:

¼ cup dry rolled oats

½ cup unsweetened coconut milk beverage

2 tsp. chia seeds

1 tsp. pure maple syrup

1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

½ tsp. ground cinnamon

½ cup blueberries

¼ large green banana, sliced

2 Tbsp. sliced unsalted almonds

1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. pumpkin seeds

Banana Muffins

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Place all ingredients in a blender, breaking the bananas into pieces as you add them. Blend everything on high for a minute or two until a smooth batter forms.

Place 9 muffin cups into a muffin tin and pour the batter divided evenly between the cups; the amount of muffins will depend on the size of the bananas and type of oats (I like filling them as full for a tall muffin). Sprinkle the tops with extra oats and gently press them down.

Bake for about 30 to 33 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Remove from the muffin tin and allow them to cool a few minutes before serving. Store refrigerated for up to 10 days

Ingredients:

  • 3 large very ripe bananas (about 1 ½ cups mashed)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups rolled oats, plus more for topping
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Morning Routine Makeover

This does NOT take long - I have broken it down to be super specific and detailed for you. The entire routine should take you about an hour.

As soon as your feet hit the floor chug water - but lets supercharge it. I’ve been obsessed with these new supplements - I do the orange collage, probiotic & purple tea.

#2

Press play on your workout. I’m loving THIS 20min workout right now. I’m done in less time than driving to a gym.

#3

Shower then Skincare. Its a heafty price tag but OMG - I haven’t needed a facial or ANY other face products since starting these.

Right after meditation I write a SHORT letter as if it were 2025. I free write “I’ll be. “I am”, “I feel”, “I am grateful for”. This has helped me plan my day with my GOALS in mind instead of my to-dos.

#7

LIST BULLET JOURNAL

Plan day. Keep GOALS and not to-dos at the top. If something doesn’t move you & your family closer to your goals monitor the time & energy to give to it.

LIST BULLET JOURNAL

If you work from home this would be a great time to check your emails and add to your daily plan. If you work for yourself and feeling creative then start that. If you work outside of the home it might be time to start your commute. If your #1 job is your littles they might be waking up at this point.

Bath or shower. Yes - I take 2 showers a day. I like to “wash off” the day. Use a scrub a couple of times a week and a heavy moisturizer during the colder months. Skincare.

#2

Set out supplements, cup, and straw on the counter for the morning.

#3

10 minute evening stretch. We do this as a family and let me tell you a 2 year old doing this is the cutest thing.

#4

Would you pass it on to a friend? My business grows mainly by word of mouth and people (like you!) using the links in this toolkit to purchase items.

So if you received value from this toolkit would you pass it along to a friend?

And if someone sent this to me and you are new to my content I would love for you to join me on instagram as well. I feature my morning routine as well as daily use of the things I’ve mentioned in this toolkit.
